As artificial intelligence rapidly changes how businesses operate, veteran investor Josh Koren is encouraging professionals to focus on what he believes technology will never replace: the willingness to keep learning.
Drawing on more than 15 years of experience analyzing businesses and technology companies, Koren has introduced a personal pledge centered on continuous learning, intellectual curiosity, and adaptability. The pledge reflects lessons he has developed throughout his career in investment banking, hedge funds, and technology investing, where keeping pace with change has always been essential.
According to the World Economic Forum, nearly 40% of workers’ core skills are expected to change by 2030, while LinkedIn’s Workplace Learning Report continues to identify learning opportunities as one of the strongest drivers of career development and employee retention. As organizations increasingly adopt artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, Koren believes professionals should focus less on predicting every change and more on developing the ability to learn alongside these technologies.
“Technology has always changed the way businesses operate,” Koren said. “What’s different today is the speed of that change. I’ve found that the professionals who stay curious and continue learning are usually the ones who adapt the best.”
Rather than viewing continuous learning as something reserved for formal education, Koren believes it should become an ongoing habit throughout a person’s career. His personal pledge encourages professionals to make time each week to explore new ideas, read beyond headlines, challenge long-held assumptions, remain open to unfamiliar perspectives, and develop a deeper understanding of the technologies shaping their industries.
The pledge also encourages professionals to approach emerging technologies with curiosity instead of hesitation. Koren believes no one needs to become an expert overnight, but everyone benefits from understanding how innovation is changing the businesses, industries, and careers around them.
“Throughout my career, I’ve learned that curiosity is one of the few competitive advantages that never becomes outdated,” Koren said. “The people who continue asking thoughtful questions are usually the ones who continue growing.”
Research continues to support that mindset. IBM’s Institute for Business Value has reported that executives increasingly view workforce skills and adaptability as critical priorities for long-term success. At the same time, businesses across nearly every industry continue investing in artificial intelligence to improve productivity, efficiency, and innovation.
For individuals looking to put the pledge into practice, Koren recommends beginning with small, consistent habits rather than dramatic changes. Spending time each week reading outside your field, exploring emerging technologies, listening to different perspectives, and setting aside uninterrupted time for learning can build knowledge over time without becoming overwhelming. He also encourages professionals to revisit assumptions regularly and remain willing to adjust their thinking as new information becomes available.
To help reinforce those habits, Koren recommends committing to a simple 30-day challenge. The goal is not to master artificial intelligence or become an expert in a new field within a month. Instead, he encourages participants to intentionally dedicate time each week to learning something unfamiliar, reflecting on what they have discovered, and identifying one way they can apply that knowledge in their work or daily lives.
“Learning doesn’t stop once you build experience,” Koren said. “In many ways, experience should make you even more curious because you realize how much there is still left to understand.”
Koren invites professionals, entrepreneurs, and students alike to adopt one or more principles from his lifelong learning pledge, commit to them for 30 days, and encourage others to do the same. He hopes the pledge serves as a reminder that while technology will continue to evolve, curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn remain valuable in every profession.
