Trimble VRS Network to provide high-precision positioning services for geospatial, construction, automotive and agriculture industries in Japan

WESTMINSTER, Colo., Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Trimble announced today the acquisition of Terasat Japan, one of the largest virtual reference station (VRS) service providers in the Japanese market. The acquisition allows Trimble to now directly offer its VRS correction service in Japan, providing significant incremental coverage for real-time, centimeter-level positioning for the geospatial, construction, automotive and agriculture industries. By providing a high-precision positioning foundation across Japan’s infrastructure, Trimble bridges the connection between digital models and the physical world. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Trimble announced the acquisition of Terasat Japan, one of the largest virtual reference station (VRS) service providers in the Japanese market.

With full Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) constellation tracking and built-in redundancy, Trimble ensures high availability and reliability giving users a solid connection and network reliably in historically difficult environments, such as steep terrain, heavy tree canopy or urban canyons.

Terasat Japan provides GNSS corrections based on data from the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) network comprising over 1,300 stations spaced across the Japanese archipelago.

Trimble VRS is a real-time network RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) correction service that provides positioning professionals with instant, high-precision GNSS data via cellular connection. Powered by a fixed network of GSI CORS, it utilizes proprietary software to deliver sub-centimeter to centimeter-level accuracy (typically 2 cm horizontal and 3 cm vertical) without requiring users to set up, secure or maintain their own physical base stations. It utilizes full GNSS constellation tracking allowing operators to maintain robust connectivity, achieve rapid convergence times, and work more reliably even in challenging physical environments like tree canopy or urban centers.
