Helical Insight Adds Support for Locally Hosted AI Models via Ollama, Keeping Business Data Private and Secure

Open-source BI platform lets organizations run conversational analytics on their own infrastructure, addressing data security and privacy concerns around AI

HYDERABAD, India, October 20, 2026 – Helical Insight, the open-source business intelligence and embedded analytics platform, today announced support for locally hosted AI models, including models run through Ollama. Organizations can now use AI-assisted conversational analytics without sending prompts or query results to an external AI provider.

As companies add AI to their analytics, many have paused over a simple question: where does our data go? In a typical setup, a user’s question, database context and returned records are passed to a language model. When that model belongs to a third-party vendor, sensitive information leaves the company’s environment with no control of the proprietary data going out.

Open Source BI Helical Insight’s bring-your-own-LLM design removes that dependency. Teams can connect the AI module of Helical Insight to a model running on their own servers, a private cloud or a GPU machine in their data center. When the BI platform and the model are both deployed in-house, prompts, generated queries, context and results can remain inside the organization’s network.

What the update means for customers

  • Local AI inference: Connect the analytics module to a self-hosted model through Ollama or another compatible endpoint.
  • On-premises deployment: Helical Insight is an on-prem tool that can also run in cloud and hybrid environments, with support for Windows, Linux, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Access controls built in: Role-based access, row-level security, single sign-on and multi-tenancy help ensure users see only the data they are authorized to see.
  • AI semantic layer: Business definitions, synonyms and custom KPIs defined at the semantic model layer help the AI interpret questions consistently.
  • One platform: Interactive dashboards, pixel-perfect paginated reports and embedded analytics sit alongside conversational AI.

“Security and privacy are the first objections we hear when teams consider AI in BI,” said Nikhilesh Tiwari, Co-founder, Helical Insight. “Running the model locally gives customers a practical answer. They get the convenience of asking questions in plain English while keeping control of where their data is processed.”
